Sydney Harbour Bridge

sydneyharbourbridge_da

I put this stitch together the other day looking through some old images as I archive them correctly and this one really lent itself to being styled like this. The high cloud in the background makes this shot a success and if I was to re process the image I would hit the recovery slider in RAW a bit harder to pull more in detail on the right low clouds.

On this day this the bridge was flying the Australian flag and also the Aboriginal flag. usually the NSW state flag fly’s with the Australian flag.

9 image stitch run through PtGui as I find photomerge in Photoshop struggles with aligning the bridge structure correctly.

This shot is a great example of what you can shoot on an overcast day. Forget your blue skys and puffy clouds and wide open landscapes. Get out into your city and find creative compositions with your telephoto lens. I am doing heaps of this and I’m loving it.

I’m going to be in Melbourne for around a week next month and sure I will be getting the standard panoramic’s of places but this type of shooting is what excites me and it will be high on the list.

The full kit back with film door open view finder

back of camera fotoman_groundglass1

This is a sale that I wish I didn’t have to make but there is camera equipment I need to buy and the Minister of Finance and Affairs (the wife) will not approve more camera purchases without me sacrificing some gear I already have.

So here it is. My Fotoman 624 fitted with the Schneider 110mm Super Symmar XL lens. Complete with Schneider center filter and will also come with the magnetic ground glass. The ground glass is only a month old and comes in its own protective case.

This camera was purchased new in February 2009 from Mainline Photographics in Sydney.

This camera is in as new condition and has had about 15 rolls of film run through it.

All up this kit has cost me around $7000 and I am selling it all for $5000. Will courier anywhere in the world, but only via registered traceable means.

Further details on the cameras specs can be found on the Fotoman website. Click here.

If you have any questions, want additional images sent to you etc please don’t hesitate to call me on 0414 374 533 or email through my site.

Newcastle Day Photo Workshop

newcastle_course_dec08

I love teaching people the skills, techniques and art of shooting landscapes on either digital or slide film, especially on evenings like this.

This shot was taken on my Newcastle Day Workshop on sunset December 2008. A few of the lads on the course are in the foreground with a stunning rainbow behind them… TURN AROUND GUYS !! But in all fairness the sunset glow of orange through the clouds was stunning.

This is a 17 image stitch that shows about 180 to 200 degrees of Nobbys Beach. Just a RAW stitch made into jpeg that has only had a levels adjustment to it.

Crescent Head, Mid North Coast, NSW

This shot has been in my archives for a while now and every now and again I have pulled it out, processed it and it is on it’s third try that I like it. Finally

I see an image like this hanging in my future gallery printed at 80 inches wide on Kodak metallic, mounted on aluminium, lit with directional halogens. Mmmm.

Narrabeen Baths – Fotoman 624

Narrabeen Baths

I am still working on a video to show you all the Fotoman 624 (just got to find the time to finish it off). Anyway here is a shot I took of Narrabeen Baths a few weeks back on sunset with the camera.

Digital Mediums – Professional Canvas Printing in Sydney

logo_crimson

Finding a good, , high quality, trustworthy, colour managed printer is really Russian Roulette in this industry so I thought I would do a bit of a shout out for a great printing company in Sydney that I have been using for the past three years who handles all my canvas work.

It is a company run by two mates Angus and Shaun and they have really built their business up over the years to incorporate a whole range of additional services. You can upload your order to their site and they will do the rest.

So if your looking for a company to do your canvas printing I can highly recommend these guys. I even have canvas hanging in my house that they have printed and it is a top notch job, even my customers have raved about the quality of the job, not to mention the photo they picked as well 🙂

Click to visit their site.

For all those who also attend my group or private courses Digital Mediums is offering you a 15% discount on all orders made through their site. So email me for discount code, along with your name and the course date you attended.

Long Jetty

Over the last week or more the light here in and around Sydney has been nothing short of sensational. Both on sunrise and sunset it is really delivering a photographers dream. I have shot what I can with my other commitments, missing some great sunrises as I have been baby sitting my two kids. But I am pretty happy with what I have managed to shoot.

This top shot was taken on a private course on the Central Coast and the bottom one again was taken on a private course from Mrs Macquaries Chair in Sydney.

Both shot on the Fuji GX617 | Velvia 50 with next to no post production other than cleaning the scan and then a contrast adjustment.

Forresters Beach Shutter Blend

cc80dAnother shot done messing about with multiple exposure blending. Each shot has been taken at the same aperture (obviously) but at different shutter speeds for movement effects but playing around with the iso on the 5D Mark II from 50 all the way to 1600.

15 images were taken for various events that happened when I was there and I then selected the best three and blended them in this shot. The sky was the longest at 2 minutes for beautiful cloud movement. The center waves at 1.6 sec and the bottom waves over the rocks at 1.3 sec.

With shooting like this you do look at blending in more images ie for water pouring off other rocks but if it doesn’t work, it doesn’t work. The whole idea is to make the best shot, not with how many images you can blend into it.

This technique the principles behind it and the post production development is now taught on all my private and group courses. It gives you an excellent insight on how to manipulate light through filters, iso and shutter speeds. Basically you can simulate movement effects at the middle of the day that are only really possible in low light situations. Lots and lots of fun.
