For sale Linhof 617 and Fuji G617

———————————————————————————————

For those interested in Medium Format Panoramic I have my Fotoman 6×24 for sale. Details are on this link

———————————————————————————————

I remember the day where I wished I had one 617 camera and now I have three.

Since the purchase of my Fuji GX617 I no longer need to hold onto my other panoramic systems and they are now for sale.

Both cameras have just been fully serviced, shutters cleaned and tested and strip cleaned by Baltronics (Sun studios) a professional camera workshop here in Sydney. Proof of service can be supplied if needed.

Linhof 617 (fixed 90mm lens) – $3900 – SOLD
Camera is in excellent condition, minor marks on body from metal buckles on strap. Clean optics. Removable view finder (clean and clear). No center filter. Camera takes 120 medium format film. I have owned the camera since Jan 08. I am the second owner and have the original purchase documents and manual. I have shot with this camera and found the use of a center filter is a personal choice but I havent had any fall off issues.

With both cameras I will through in a cable release and a couple of pro packs of Velvia 50 to get you started.

The Fuji G617 has got me to where I am today with my photography and my website is a testament to what this camera can do for you. The Linhof has been just as good but upgrading to the GX617 with a 90mm was always a plan.

Will post worldwide via a traceable service at buyers expense. Email me at info@mattlauder.com.au if your interested or have any further questions or want to see further photo’s of the systems.

Oh Sweet Beautiful Slide

Even after shooting slide film for 9 years when I send film off I hang around my letter box like a vulture when I know it’s arriving  back from the lab. Today I was out the back and I heard the postmans bike in the distance. I almost re enact the Eddy Murphy skit about “The Icecream man is coming” from his Delirious tour.

So I stand at the window watching the postman drop letters in my mailbox waiting to see my film package, I then watch him reach into the red bag and pull out the Express post pack. “Its here”. I’m at the letter box before he even has a chance of attempting to put it into the slot. “Thanks mate” I say and before I get to my front door I have the express post pack torn open. Now all you digital shooters are probably thinking I’m some kind of weirdo. But you cant understand, it is a film shooters thing.

This is one of the first images taken with my Fuji GX617 and it is going to be added to my limited edition collection. A nice way to start off shooting with a new camera system.

New slide images have also been added to my main gallery.

Boom, Spoon Bay

Another shot of Spoon Bay. The shot had everything I wanted but the colour just wasnt there and the shadows were quite blue. But it worked great as a toned B&W. All done in CS3.

Seitz 617 digital camera and Ken Duncan

The other week I popped into Ken Duncan’s CFL print lab to collect and sign a few FujiFlex prints for clients and while I was there Ken Duncan also popped in to check over some proofing and I was able to have a good chat to him about general photo stuff (great guy for those who haven’t had the pleasure to meet him).

During our conversation Ken mentioned that he is awaiting the arrival of the new Seitz 617 camera to trial. I got the impression from his tone that the arrival date of the camera is some what unknown, but it is definitely an interesting topic as I have always been and still will be a fan of Ken’s work and to see what he can do with this monster of a camera will be inspiring. But given the price tag of the Seitz 617 (approx $42 grand Aust) no matter how good Kens shots will be, the possibility of owning one will remain on the wish list. But then again the price of the Hasselblad backs can set you back just as much and with digital technology constantly being updated the price of the past model drops considerably.

I am in and out of the CFL lab all the time, so every now and again I will make inquiries about if the camera has arrived and if Ken has shot with it yet and let you all know. I’m still yet to see any images from this camera and the Setiz website seams to only have images from it’s other cameras like the roundshot. So if you know of any please post a link to them.

By the way the staff at both the CFL (Created for Life) print and framing studio are the nicest and most helpful bunch you will ever find at a lab and their print and framing quality is second to none. So check them out and get a price list.

New 617 joins the arsenal – Fuji GX617

Today I took delivery of my Fuji GX617 with the 90mm lens. I bought it off a mate of mine Christian Fletcher who has done some amazing work with this outfit. I have seen the GX617 in use a few times over the years and it’s simplicity of use, ability to change lenses to the 105mm, 180mm and 300mm, the quality of images has made it high on my wish list.

It’s a welcome addition to my kit and I have big plans for this camera over the coming months and years.

New images from this camera will be seen on my main gallery.

Forresters Beach Shoot

On Sunday the 17th of August 2008 I met up with a few guys Neal (Spool Photography) who was over my way on business and an extended photo trip and Brent Pearson who basically was our guide of the area as he had shot the location extensively and found a lot of interesting rock formations, unfortunately the best feature was under water from the high tide.

This shot is just one of quite a few I am yet to go through. There was one location where the huge swell was crashing into the rock wall and the wave splash was incredible. This location is ripe with potential and you can expect to see quite a few more images of this place to come in the near future. Especially with the arrival of my Fuji GX617 this week.

Click on the image for the large version and check out the rock detail in the foreground… just beautiful.

Advanced digital shooting

As someone who shoots digital and slide film at a professional level I am always out shooting and thinking of new ways to advance myself not only as a photographer but also as a teacher of the art.

The images below are a series I shot last night – 12th August 2008 of a glorious sunset over Terrigal Beach on the the Central Coast. The shots are taken with my new digital workflow technique where I am able to capture a scene with a huge dynamic range in a single exposure.

All images are panoramic stitches taken on a Canon 1ds Mark II | 90% of the images are processed in Adobe Camera RAW (well taken original images are essential) then moved into CS3 for final touches (sharpening, dust removal, colour cast removal, minor cropping to 3:1 ratio). All images are approx 400MB @ 300 dpi.

This new work flow is now taught in all my courses. See my main website http://www.mattlauder.com.au for course dates and locations.

Happy shooting.

What are you looking at ….

Out shooting yesterday – 5th Aug 08 – and saw these pelicans watching and getting scraps from fishermen cleaning their catch at the boat wharf on Terrigal Beach.

I chucked my 70-200mm on and saw the potential of this shot when a Pelican faced me. This was one of three shots the other two had his beak to the left and right. Would make a nice three image shot. But this is my favorite.

Merewether Baths, Newcastle

I love Newcastle… the place is stacked with photographic opportunities and on Sunday 3rd of August 08 I ran my first Newcastle Day course. Towards the end of the day we made our way to Merewether Baths as I had an idea of a shot that would complement a clear sky and give students on the course a variety of compositions to shoot.

Single image | Canon 1ds Mark II | 70-200mm f2.8 | shot on manual at F22 for 35sec | 10 stop ND | focal length 155mm.
