Camera Food

The other day I took delivery of my bulk order of Velvia 50 slide film from the US.

1 Brick and 5 rolls. (125 rolls all together).

With my gear this is equal to: 500 shots on my 617′s or 375 shots on my 624 or 1500 shots on the blad. Should keep me busy for a little while. But I will be ordering more next month.

Avoca Dawn on the Fotoman 624 ( Fotoman 6×24 )

Seeing I showed you guys the Fuji 617 shot from this sunrise I thought I would put up the Fotoman 624 shot. You should see the tranny this thing makes bloody incredible, especially when it is from a sunrise like this.

This camera is with me all the time now so I will be adding more shots I take with this beast.

The Haven – Terrigal Sunset on the Fuji GX617

After shooting so much digital it was great to finally put in a swag of film and get it back. Especially with some of the great light we have had around of late. This one was taken on the sunset shoot of my magic hour course. There was a yacht in the background that worried me in regards to my exposure time as it was rocking badly and I didn’t want too much blur and I had my shutter speed as fast as I could get it without sacrificing DOF. I think I just got away with it on this shot… I shot a great sunset a few months back and the moving boats totally destroyed the image from being used for anything.

This shot is taken on the Fuji GX617 | Velvia 50 | imacon drum scanned with a minor contrast curve only in Photoshop that’s it, no colour editing at all. 100% as captured.

I’ll post more shots from this batch of processing over the coming days. Got some more crackers.

Avoca Beach on the Fuji GX617

A post earlier this month I added a shot of this sunrise shot with the 5D MkII at the time I also took two shots on my Fuji GX617 panoramic camera on Velvia 50 slide film. Well here is the film shot. Click the image to see the larger version (1200 pix wide). When comparing the two this one has the colour the digital has the angle. Digital has no grain but the film one does. I personally like this one better.

With the two film shots I took, I kept my aperture and shutter speed the same between them but I did change grads from a 2 stop soft to a 3 stop soft and this one is the two stop soft. I cant remember the shutter speed but it would have been around 4 to 8 sec + your reciprocity failure compensation @ f22.

Sunset to Sunrise, Central Coast, NSW

The Entrance, Central Coast

Last week I ran a two day private course for an underwater photographer Don (great bloke), who had himself quite a camera set up. GX617 with the 90mm and 300mm lenses, Noblex 6×12, he had a few other medium format and 35mm cameras but we would have needed a camel to cart it all around. The Noblex was impressive to look through and see in operation, might have to put that on the list for Santa.

We had some great light shooting from 9am to sunset on day one and then sunrise to the afternoon on day two. The top shot was what we got on the evening and the shot below on sunrise. In the shot below the rocks are a bit dark for me but the overall shot works as a whole I think. Very hard to get the dynamic range from dark rock detail to sky highlight in one shot. Would be a perfect shot to do two exposures on slide and blend.

20 rolls of film in for processing (Velvia 50 120 and Velvia 50 220)

Some how I have managed to end up with 20 rolls of film for processing. I had to sit back and think long and hard about what was on them, I guess I will find out on Friday when I get it all back. The rolls of 120 are from my new Fotoman 6×24 which will be great to see and the 220 is from the GX617.

I am working on a video post to show you all the Fotoman 6×24 as they aren’t a common sight even for the film photographers among us so stay tuned.

As you can see in the picture I use Vision Image Lab for my processing. They are the best and I have used them my whole career. If you find a good lab, stick to it, no matter where you move to.

For those who have a keen eye, in the shot I only have 16 rolls, I added another 4 from a morning shoot on Monday.
