New Masterclass – Woy Woy Boats Long Exposure

When the light is harsh and the standard shutter speed is unflattering but the scene has potential what do you do ?

In this masterclass we look at the difference using long exposure has on boat scene and the concept that was being achieved in camera.

We look over the files captured during the shoot and the difference between the B&W and Lee 10 Big Stopper ND filters on shots.

We then head into Photoshop and process the pick of the bunch starting with the RAW file to a final print ready image.

Norah Head Lighthouse Video Masterclass

After two weeks of scattered showers there seamed to be a break in all the grey so my mate Adam and I headed out to Norah Head Lighthouse which is just north of Soldiers Beach. The sunrise itself wasnt anything special but the light falling onto the headland was fantastic. Running around shooting as much as possible on both film and digital I ended up with a few crackers and this was one of them that I was able to grab in between film captures. (Film was sent off today, cant wait.)

This one was shot on the 5D MkII with the 17-40mm f4 lens @ 17mm.

I have created the full editing of this image from scratch as a 22 minute video tutorial that is available at Rubbing Pixels. Free for members or $9.99 for guests.

Soldiers Beach Capture and Edit Video Tutorial

In this masterclass I have divided it up in two sections. First I discuss the thought processes and techniques that goes into creative water movement capture. The use of shutters speeds, iso, aperture for full DOF, focus point and filters used to get that perfect shutter speed without making other elements of your image suffer as a result.

Now that I have the shot and you understand how it was taken the two selected images are processed in Camera RAW and blended together in Photoshop to get our water perfect. Further Photoshop editing is done to the image to keep it looking natural but to also slightly enhance certain elements of the image.

This tutorial is available on the Rubbing Pixels website. Free to members, but can be purchased for $9.99. This is the link to the tutorial.
