60 inch canvas Triptych of Dee Why Beach

Just completed a big canvas order for a commercial client. This was one of the images, a sunrise shot of Dee Why that was converted to black and white and we then split it up into three equal sections to print off and stretch as a triptych. When all the panels are together you see the full image, nothing is lost on the sides, this process is called “Mirror Wrap”. This canvas is a 60 x 20 inch, so each panel is 20 x 20 inch.

The whole job was completed by us. We are now able to fully handle all of our own canvas jobs from start to finish.

Yattalunga Jetty Photos, Central Coast, NSW

A beautiful spot on the Central Coast that I have had my eye on for a while and waiting for the right conditions. Shot on the Fotoman 624 that I have been carrying around with me all the time now and I am getting some great stuff with it.

Somersby Falls, Central Coast, NSW

Sorry about the lack of post guys, been pretty flat out of late with work, who would think shooting landscapes full time can be so time consuming. Anyway here is a shot from good old Somersby Falls, tried to put something in the shot to make it stand out from all the other shots taken at this place.

MacMasters Beach, Central Coast, NSW

Last nights sunset was a ripper but I wasnt able to shoot it, so I made sure I wouldn’t miss this morning. Woke up and you could see the sky full of high cloud… as soon as you see that you know your on for sure.

Met up with a good friend and we headed down to MacMasters Beach. Gorgeous blood red sunrise that moved into great gold tones with blue sky. When the sky went red I went nuts running around shooting with digital, my GX617, Fotoman 624 and also the Hasselblad 6×6. Four cameras and only two tripods, with the light changing so quickly can get stress full changing camera mounting plates. Why so many film cameras… well they all give you different views. The Fuji G617 stayed home and had a sleep in.

Forresters Beach Star Blend

I’m really getting into this star shooting and heading out as much as possible to explore different techniques.

With this one I arrived about a hour and a half before sunrise and I laid down some shots. I wanted to get away from the spinning star look but I needed detail as the moon had set and there was no real overhead light source. So I took a range of images all the way till sunrise to do a blend. Then finding trying to find the right combination to get a realistic look. So this is my result.

Two image blend. Sky and Ground. 20 minutes apart. Good learning experience. The key to all this is the blending of light in the exposures.

North Avoca Three image Exposure Blend

Last nights sunset at Avoca Beach taken when out teaching a private course. Wish there was some cloud. Cloud around today… out teaching again so lets see what happens.

The Skillion, another natural exposure blend

Nothing special but still a nice shot with interesting water movement. Multiple exposure blend. Hopefully by next week I will have the Canon 16-35mm f2.8 and I can off load the 17-40mm f4 which this one was shot on.

The Entrance on the B+W 10 stop ND

This shot was taken on the evening shoot on the first day of my two day workshop I hold on the central coast where we cover both the capture and post production of images. We were shooting with 10 stop filters pulling a whole range of shutter speeds from 2 min to 12 min playing around with the ISO and Aperture. This one was around 5 min and the difference in clouds movement from 5 min to 12 min really wasnt that much to warrant the extra time sitting around. Let alone the extra noise.

As sunset approached we just decided to keep the filter on as the look was great, natural fall off was great and I think complemented the shot well.

I have just finished teaching 7 days straight so I will be posting more regularly now. Over the 7 days I almost lost my voice from all the early 3 to 4 degree mornings talking while teaching on sunrise.

The Haven – Terrigal, Central Coast, NSW

Snapped these few shots on the GX617 when out and about teaching. Chris and I made our way to the sandstone rock ledge at Terrigal in the late afternoon and shot towards the Haven. The sunset wasn’t going to be that special but the afternoon light was perfect.

The Skillion – Day Shots

Over the coming months I am working on increasing the number of day time images to my site to broaden my range. I certainly don’t have a small supply of shots with crazy colours, but day time images are few and far between. But finding and waiting for the right day time conditions is easier said than done though.

Now that we are moving into winter we will loose that heat haze in the sky that is a trade mark of summer and also the air looks cleaner now which is a bonus. Now all I have to do is wait for the right kind of cloud (I love the high cloud like in the above shot). I also try and not shoot at mid day as the light is very blue and everything is very high contrast.

This one is taken on my good old trusty Fuji G617 on Velvia 50 | Polariser @ f16
