Not a surfer in sight, Avoca Beach, Central Coast, NSW

Out yesterday afternoon shooting down at Avoca Beach giving my new Canon 7D a work out with my 400mm lens which is now the equivalent to 640mm on the 7D with it’s 1.6x magnification factor.

The surf was huge and rough, there wasnt a surfer or beach goer in sight just a few taking their afternoon walk along the beach.

This shot could make the list for the surf section, which when launched will be found in the main gallery section.

Avoca Dawn on the Fotoman 624 ( Fotoman 6×24 )

Seeing I showed you guys the Fuji 617 shot from this sunrise I thought I would put up the Fotoman 624 shot. You should see the tranny this thing makes bloody incredible, especially when it is from a sunrise like this.

This camera is with me all the time now so I will be adding more shots I take with this beast.

Avoca Beach Dawn on the GX617

There has been some nice sunrises getting around of late and this is one from last week. The light was so amazing you just didnt know what direction to point your camera. I think I made the right choice.

Avoca Beach on the Fuji GX617

A post earlier this month I added a shot of this sunrise shot with the 5D MkII at the time I also took two shots on my Fuji GX617 panoramic camera on Velvia 50 slide film. Well here is the film shot. Click the image to see the larger version (1200 pix wide). When comparing the two this one has the colour the digital has the angle. Digital has no grain but the film one does. I personally like this one better.

With the two film shots I took, I kept my aperture and shutter speed the same between them but I did change grads from a 2 stop soft to a 3 stop soft and this one is the two stop soft. I cant remember the shutter speed but it would have been around 4 to 8 sec + your reciprocity failure compensation @ f22.

Avoca Beach, Central Coast, NSW

They are predicting rain and weather like this for the next week and possibly even past that. So what to do when it is a crappy day. Why photography of course.

Headed down to the beach with the family at 7am and decided to muck around with wide angle panoramics. This one is about 200 degrees and cropped to a 5:1 ratio. Would like to get this angle but down to a 3:1 ratio. Next time I’ll give it a go and get closer to the water and shoot at a wider angle.

Morning Surfer, Avoca Beach, Central Coast, NSW

morningsurfer_avoca

I’ve been going through a heap of old images this week and have been finding heaps of gems that I have over looked for some reason. This one was from when I was out shooting surfers to my left and saw these guys running past me and jumping off the rock ledge into the water.

At the time I was shooting the surfers on manual and I didn’t have time to try and perfect my exposure to shoot the guys running past me and seeing I had to almost shoot into the sun, I just switched to AV and clicked away. Heaps of fun.

First 360 Precision shot – Avoca Beach

Finally my new 360 Precision head arrived by FedEx. This is one serious chunk of metal. After working it out and a quick call to my mate Christian I felt ready to give this thing ago. So here it is my first stitch. I have cropped it in a standard 6 x 17 format. This is a 7 images at 50mm. Stitched in 16 bit with a file size of 587MB @ 300dpi. (17116×4279 pixels) before cropping to 6 x 17. Editing the water is a pain and this shot needs more work as one image threw the water out as it was a full wave curling.

I did upload this as a 6 x 24 but I like the more focused composition of 6 x 17 for this image.

This image is pretty much the field of view with my Linhof 90mm and this shot is a lot sharper than what my tranny would be and is grainless when viewed at actual pixels and I have a file 3 times the size what I would have scanned my tranny too.
